The past year has been crazy for all of us. And if this past year has taught us anything, it has taught us to not take anything for granted, appreciate the littlest and tiniest things and to just practice gratitude. Today, I’ll be sharing 25 Journal Prompts For Gratitude. Before we look at the journal prompts for gratitude, let’s look at a few important subtopics!

What is Gratitude?

Gratitude can simply be defined as the quality of being thankful; and the readiness to show appreciation.

What is a Journal Prompt?

Journal prompts are statements or questions designed to get you writing! They are solely designed to inspire you to write and offer you ideas of what to write about.

No matter how often you write or how much you love writing, there’ll be times when you are short of ideas on what to write about and there will be times when you just don’t know where to start. Journal prompts are amazing in the sense that they help give you ideas on what to write.

Is it Easy to Practice Gratitude?

No! It’s way easier to focus on our challenges than it is to practice gratitude and be grateful for what we have. It can be easy to practice gratitude in times when everything is going fine but in tough times, in times when everything seems to be upside down, in times when we are struggling to get through each day and in times when life doesn’t seem to be smiling at us, it can be extremely hard to feel grateful. What then?

It’s not easy to practice gratitude. We are humans and there will be tough times but gratitude is necessary and the truth is that there are always things to be grateful for, even on our darkest days, but we just have to look harder to find them. Gratitude might not be easy but the benefits of practicing gratitude in good and bad times is unbeatable!

Some Facts About Gratitude

  1. Practicing gratitude will make you happier.
  2. Practicing gratitude does not mean you do not have problems.
  3. You don’t have to start big. You can start small. You can look for the smallest, almost insignificant things and be grateful for them.
  4. Gratitude is choosing to focus more on the positives and be thankful instead of giving more attention to the negatives.
  5. Gratitude can change our overall outlook on life and make you more optimistic about life.
  6. Gratitude doesn’t make our problems disappear, but it helps them feel more manageable.

4 Ways To Practice Gratitude

  1. Every day, think of 5 things you are grateful for. Family, friends, your kids, nature, your job.
  2. Keep a gratitude journal. Gratitude journaling is a technique that involves keeping a diary of things you’re grateful for every day. Who loves a gratitude journal as much as I do? If you think gratitude journals are outdated then you are extremely wrong. I love gratitude journals. They are a great way to practice gratitude. And writing down the things we are grateful for can go a really long way!
  3. Count your blessings. Pick a time every day to sit down and count your blessings. Sometimes, we don’t notice how much we have to be thankful for until we actually sit down and count our blessings. Sit down, count your blessings and you would realize just how much there is to be grateful for!
  4. Be consistent. Nothing good comes easily and to get the benefits of gratitude, we need to practice it consistently. Consistency is key and without consistency, it might be difficult to see results.

Benefits of Practicing Gratitude

  • Gratitude will give you a positive outlook on life: Practicing gratitude is a conscious choice and by practicing gratitude, you choose to focus on the positives and acknowledge the good more than the bad. Choosing to acknowledge the good will give you a more positive outlook on life, and make you even happier. Gratitude brings about positive feelings.
  • Gratitude will help you appreciate the littlest things: Most times, we tend to overlook the little things that happen and we tend to not be grateful for them. Gratitude will help you realize that everything no matter how little is worth being thankful for.
  • Gratitude improves mental health. Gratitude does wonders for the mental health and studies have shown that practicing gratitude can ease anxiety and depression and even help improve your mood. Also, practicing gratitude is an essential part of self love as it’ll help you feel good about yourself and have a better self esteem.
